Introducing the 'Silicon Valley Diamond' Rose
|
|
When Yamagami's Nursery began planning our Diamond Anniversary Celebration, one idea was to find an unnamed plant and name it in honor of both our big event and the area that has kept Yamagami's successful for the past 60 years. With the help of John Bagnasco of Garden Compass, Yamagami's Nursery selected a lovely, prolific blooming rose. And what a great selection it is! 'Silicon Valley Diamond' Rose was developed by the great French hybridizers at Meilland, home of the popular Meidiland Roses. It is a miniature landscape rose, meaning it is tiny, tough, and perfect for massing in a landscape or as a border.
'Silicon Valley Diamond' Rose has shell pink buds that open to an apricot tinged ivory, much like a canary diamond. This glossy little plant is covered with buds and blooms much of the year. With buds and blossoms present, the colors shimmer like a field of sparkling jewels against its dark green foliage. 'Silicon Valley Diamond' Rose grows to about 18' tall and wide. It will perform as well in containers as it will in the ground. Its small size makes it ideal for those decorative containers that are just too small for a bush rose. Its constant soft colors will work well with nearly any color scheme.
Add sparkle to your garden with 'Silicon Valley Diamond' Roses, offered exclusively at Yamagami's Nursery. As part of our Diamond Anniversary Celebration, you can take 60% OFF one 'Silicon Valley Diamond' Rose on Friday, September 19th! Come to Yamagami's for an outstanding selection of plants, supplies, and knowledgeable staff assistance. You will see why Yamagami's has thrived for 60 years and just keeps growing better.

Did you know that fall is the best time for fertilizing many plants in your garden? Fruit trees, for example, need a fall feeding with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer, then a good deep drink of water afterwards. This feeding restores them after bearing their harvests and helps them produce next year's crop. Because citrus trees are evergreen and grow year round, they need regular feeding with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer.
|
|

All lawns, but especially Tall Fescue types, need a fall feeding. Tall Fescues will go yellowish in the winter without a good fall feeding to keep them green. Other turf types use their fall feeding to help restore their vigor after the rigors of the hot summer. Fall feeding helps to stimulate sturdy root growth as well as keeping lawns green. Yamagami's recommends GreenAll Fall and Winter Feed as the ideal blend for all turf because the nitrogen contained is available to the turf even in the cold of winter.
It turns out that most woody shrubs and trees benefit more from fall feedings than spring feedings, because plants store the nitrogen in reserve in their roots to boost their spring growth. Spring feeding helps support spring growth, but the fall feeding is what primes the pump. Yamagami's recommends Dr. Earth Fertilizers in the fall for all woody shrubs and trees.
|
Spring bloomers like rhododenrons, azaleas and camellias are now building their buds and need that extra oomph for the best blossoms in the spring. Apply Dr. Earth Rhododendron, Azalea and Camellia Fertilizer now and again in 60 days for a spectacular spring!
As part of Yamagami's Diamond Anniversary Celebration, you can take $2 off the 4 lb. sized Dr. Earth Rhododendron, Azalea and Camellia Fertilizer on September 17th, $2 off the 4 lb sized Dr. Earth All Purpose Fertilizer on September 24th, and just in time for planting fall bulbs, $2 off the 4 lb sized Dr. Earth Bulb Fertilizer on October 8th. Stock up now and save! Come to Yamagami's Nursery for all your fertilizer questions and needs. Our Nursery Pros are here to help you succeed....the first time!

Week 17 of our Pumpkin Patch and our news is grim. Our patch was heavily attacked by aphids, seemingly overnight, causing such extensive damage (especially to mighty Mabel's vine) that we were forced to spray and remove much of the foliage to stop the drip of 'honey' from coating the pumpkins. Alan is putting some shade over Mabel to keep her from sunburn. She may still keep growing as much of her vine is still lush and actively growing. Brutus, however, (like pumpkins from some of our customers) seems have stopped growing for the year and is now just coasting along on his good looks and coloring up nicely. Unfortunately, handsome is not what was important for a GIANT Pumpkin. Oh, well??
More customers have checked in to say that some of their pumpkins have also stopped growing but others are still growing strong, so we know Mighty Mabel will be facing some real competition. We are so looking forward to October 11th and finding out who will win the grand prize--
A Gourmet Harvest Dinner for Four prepared by the professional chefs at Whole Foods Market in Cupertino! That dinner can be served to you in a garden setting here in the nursery or delivered to your home!
The weigh-off will be on October 11th at 11 AM, hosted by radio personality and author, Bob Tanem, America's Happy Gardener. Prizes will also be awarded to every entrant whose pumpkin is larger than ours. (We, of course, will not be in the running for the grand prize.) Come join the fun!
